3 things I wish I have more time for

I was reading Erin Azmir's blog post about how she wish she has more time for doing the things that she loves and I got inspired by her post. I thought I would do the inspired post with 3 things I really wish I have more time for currently.

Blogging
When you see my current blog posts, you'll think that "Reyar, you have been updating non-stop these days though. How come you wish you got more time for blogging when you are updating almost everyday for the couple of days?" Well, my thoughts exactly. The thing is I haven't been updating as frequent as I would like. When I have the time, I update a lot and when I am stuck with assignments, I tend to ignore the my blog. I really want to change that and update on a regular basis.

Resting
As of now, my mind is totally exhausted. Not that I rest very little, I sleep for 8 hours per night and yet my brain feels like it is exhausted. I want to rest properly for my brain to relax and feel awesome to increase my productivity and concentration.

Reading
"I really want to read a lot more." This is the sentence I tend to tell my friends and to myself quite often. The thing is I don't know what books to read since there are millions of books out there. I'm more into non-fiction and science fiction books rather than normal fiction or young adult category books. But I sometimes tell myself to read fiction books as there are thousands of awesome ones out there and I want to gain the fun of reading fiction books.
So, please give me recommendations of books that I should read. I just recently finished the Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism by Fumio Sasaki.

So, this is the things I wish I have more time of doing. What's yours? Let me know!

Taking a peek at my new years resolution in June

My title says it all! I'm going to take a peek at my new years resolutions and reflect on what I did a lot more often and what I need to do more to fulfill my new years resolutions.

In the blog post about my new years resolution, I posted about 7 resolutions.

I said that, in 2017,

I would like to read more often.
What I meant was reading books, not manga. And I'm making progress. I've started reading a few books that I've been enjoying. The progress of it is so slow though. But at least, I'm making effort to read more books. I even revived my good reads account so track my progress and finding new books. I've been spending my mid-term holidays reading books so I'm so happy for myself.

In 2017, I would like to go to gym or walk more.
UHHHH, this is the resolution that is so difficult for me to do. To be honest, I haven't gone to a single gym session since the day I wrote about it. I'm guilty! I know. I'll make some efforts to walk more often. Going to the gym, I'm not so sure. But I'll make sure I walk a lot more often.

In 2017, I would like to study more.
This resolution, I'm a bit conflicted about. I'm pretty sure that I didn't study more than I should so I need to make some efforts on that. For the assignments wise, I'm still doing pretty bad with the time management as I only start doing the assignments the night before the deadline. I NEED TO WORK ON THAT!

In 2017, I would like to learn about myself.
This one, I still am no clue about it. I've come to realize that I really enjoy marketing but at the same time, when I think about the consumerism and how it is affecting the people with the social media and marketing strategies, I'm so conflicted on whether I should pursue this path. I'll need to work on this as well.

In 2017, I would like to sleep early and wake up early regularly.
This resolution, I've been keeping up with. These days, I've been going to bed quite early regularly and waking up early. I cannot say that I go to bed at the same time every day and wake up at the same time everyday but I wake up at the one hour range around 6 - 7 am everyday.

In 2017, I would like to create more.
I've been on and off creating things. I've restarted with my pencil drawings which I really enjoyed doing since I was young, and even though I don't update enough, I've been keeping up with my blog more often. I've totally stopped updating on YouTube though. It's just I don't have enough time. On the other hand, I've been reading quite a lot more on different things so I've been really enjoying spending my time.

In 2017, I would like to travel more.
My travel germ is itching me so much that I want to go travel right now. But in reality, it is so difficult for me and my boyfriend to make time properly for travel. Another reason is money. I know my boyfriend has started working and earning money so he can easily go travel without breaking the bank. Me on the other hand, still studying so I have no money to go travelling. Another reason is my time. I only get one week break every trimester so to go travel for more than one week is impossible for me. Although, I did go to Batam, Indonesia during April so I'm really happy about that.

How I spent my mid-term break holidays in Trimester 2, 2017

Since today is the last day of mid-term break, I thought I would share with you how I spent my mid-term holidays.

- Reading books
It's been a while I started reading books again. I'm an avid manga reader but I kinda lost interest in reading normal books. So, in order to get back to reading, I bought some e-books that I have been dying to read. Right now, I'm reading Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism by Sasaki Fumio.

- Meeting up with old friends
I dedicated my entire Tuesday to meet up with my childhood friends since one of them was visiting Singapore for Ultra. So, three of us decided to meet up for a couple of hours before she fly back to Myanmar. After that, me and my other friend decided to watch movie together and it was amazing. I had so much fun and it has been a while I dedicated myself some time to socialize and it was definitely worth it.

- Reading manga
As I mentioned above, I am an avid manga reader so I read a lot of manga per day. I read many genre of manga so, I will update what I'm reading on my Instagram (if you haven't followed me on Instagram, my username is @sheisreyar)

- Doing assignments
Even though I'm on holiday, my assignments are still haunting me to death. I had one assignment due on Monday and two more assignment due on 25th of June. So, I had been doing assignments and I'll be doing the assignments this weekend since the deadline is so near.

- Writing blog posts
I have finally gotten back to writing blog posts. I've been ignoring my blog for longer that I should but I'm back to writing blog posts. I missed how much I love writing blog posts. Especially, I love writing my personal related blog posts that doesn't really require me doing loads of steps to write a blog post. These personal posts are perfect since it's just me and my keyboard to type.

- Cleaning my room
I do clean my room every few days but what I mean is cleaning extra. Changing my bed sheets, washing them, washing my blanket, deep cleaning my room, wiping the dust in hard to reach areas, deep cleaning the bathroom were some of the stuff I do during long breaks.

So, these are the things I did during my one week break for mid-term holidays. What did you do for your long holiday break? Let me know!

One-day-getaway to Batam, Indonesia 2017

I can finally make time to edit the Batam photos so here I am. Writing a blogpost about how I really enjoyed the Batam trip. The boy and I were planning a trip to Japan for this April, only to realize that both of us didn't have enough time and money to spare to go on an extravagant trip to Japan no matter how we both love Japan. We just couldn't.
We both were also planning to go Malaysia but as a Burmese, I need visa to go to Malaysia and we didn't have enough time to prepare since our trip planning was last minute as usual. So, we chose Indonesia since we came across this deal on Groupon. It was only S$60 per person and we both were able to make time for a two day trip to Indonesia.

The groupon deal came with two-way ferry ticket, buffet lunch, message, buffet breakfast for the next morning and one night hotel stay at Harmoni One Hotel. For S$60, it was a good deal for us so, we decided to go on a little short trip to Batam. The ferry gate was at Habourfront so it was easy for both of us since we live quite near to Vivo city. The ferry was at 8am for us so we reached to Habourfront at 6am. This was the very first trip to go by ourselves together after 3 and half years of our relationship and we were both very excited to go on a much needed relaxing trip.
The ferry took us around 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach to Batam from Singapore and it was really pleasant weather that day. I took quite a number of photos and Marcus took videos. When we reached Batam, there was a guide waiting for us and he took us around the city. There were few stops before lunch - a layered-cake shop, a traditional dance (I didn't have photos of it as I only took video), Polo Factory outlet, shopping district, Go Kart, temple lunch and the last stop, message palor.
The Buddhist temple was so calming and relaxing. But, we were more starving at that point so we looked at the temple pretty quickly and took some photos there. Then, our favorite stop. LUNCH! Lunch was pretty normal. It was buffet lunch with nice dishes. It was simple but edible and tasted okay.

The one-hour message came with the groupon deal but we have choices for add-on. Since this was our relaxing trip, we decided to add-on for message. I chose two-hour scrub and aromatherapy message for S$30 add-on and the boy chose Stone Message for two-hours for additional S$30. The message was amazing. It was my first time having message so it was a bit awkward but it put my body to this relaxation mode. It was epic.

After the message, the tour was ended and we can choose to do whatever we want. The tour guide took us to the hotel to start checking in and relax. Our room was twin superior room. We decided that we won't ask to look around other malls so we just decided to stay in bed and relax and watch movies.
Luckily, there is another factory outlet for food so we decided to look around and buy grocery there. We bought some milk and bread and other food. It costed us only S$6 for everything.
Then we decided that we would not go out for dinner but order room service. We ordered steak with salad and fries which forgot to take photos because we just chomped very fast. It was an okay price but it tasted quite good for western food.
Breakfast was another buffet type with loads of choices. We definitely tried all the little things and we couldn't try more stuff. We were stuffed. I really enjoyed their fried noodles with meat and sausages and fried omelet.
We went back to our room to shower and get ready to go back. We had time till 1pm to rest and get ready after our breakfast. I bought lush bath-bombs to try out with the bathtub and it was a new experience for me (lol)

When going back, it was raining quite heavily and I fell asleep on the ferry back to Singapore.
Now, I'll be breaking down how much we spent during the trip. As you know, we spent S$60 each for the package. We changed S$100 each on the trip to spend. We also bought layered-cake which costs us S$25, we added-on the message so additional S$30 each. We spent S$6 during the grocery shopping. We spent around S$10 tipping and our room service costed us around S$35. After spending some money during lunch at the Batam ferry station, we have left overs around S$40 which we exchanged back to SGD. So, we spent around S$130 during the trip per person.

But, we knew what we spent and where to save for next time. We can choose not to buy the layered-cake and we can choose not to go for grocery shopping. We can also choose not to order room service to save money. But what we thought it was worth the spend was the additional top up for message. I find it was absolutely worth it and I would be spending additional money for message next time I go there.

VIA Survey of Character Strengths

I was reading an acquaintance's blog where she talks about this survey and recommended me to take the survey to know what my strengths. I decided to give it a chance since I'm always curious to find out my take on the world and how I see people around me and how I see myself.

The questions were super awkward as I didn't have much to talk about. I had some difficulties answering some questions since I didn't really think about much and it changes according to the situations so it was quite difficult for me to answer properly.

So, after I took this more than 200 questions, these are my results.

- Curiosity and interest in the world.
You are curious about everything. You are always asking questions, and you find all subjects and topics fascinating. You like exploration and discovery.

It seems that I have been really keen on learning. It doesn't necessarily mean I like studying my modules in university. Currently, my mindset is that I want to learn everything that I can from environmental change to how to play chess. I don't really have motives when I want to learn like I want to learn programming because I want to work as a programmer. For me, I just want to learn stuff where I can learn about myself more and I want to learn what I enjoy doing. So far, I really enjoy what I'm doing but I got bored so easily so I want to know myself more.

- Fairness, equity and justice
Treating all people fairly is one of your abiding principles. You do not let your personal feelings bias your decisions about other people. You give everyone a chance.

This one gave me a surprise. I think I was practicing justice in my unconsciousness. Whenever I had to write reports about ethical reasons in the workplace, I always tend to write fairly with all the evidence that I can find to feel equal. So, I think I had thought about it without me knowing.

- Zest, enthusiasm and energy
Regardless of what you do, you approach it with excitement and energy. You never do anything halfway or halfheartedly. For you, life is an adventure.

To be honest, I was really surprised about this as my strength. For me, it was really difficult to do some things with enthusiasm. I tend to do projects with enthusiasm at first then I tend to fall out of the energy. So, seeing this surprises me.

- Love of learning
You love learning new things, whether in a class or on your own. You have always loved school, reading, and museums-anywhere and everywhere there is an opportunity to learn.

As I mentioned above, I like reading and learning new things. Whether it might be learning about new camera trick or reading about how animals were being harmed in the process of making cosmetics. I'm not really a museum kind of gal though. I tend to read more to learn and find new ideas by browsing through the internet.

- Judgment, critical thinking, and open-mindedness
Thinking things through and examining them from all sides are important aspects of who you are. You do not jump to conclusions, and you rely on solid evidence to make your decisions. You are able to change your mind.

I have always known for being open-minded so I was not surprised when I saw this point as my strength. The bad thing about this is, I always tend to find evidence to make judgment so I did not really care about other people's feelings and emotions. Because of this, I was hated or some of the relationships fell out because of this factor.

So, this is mine. Go do yours HERE!
